In India and the world, there are many crops and every crop has its own value and crop has an optimum time of sowing and harvesting time. In this article, we read about the oilseed crops in India with their cultivation areas and production. India comes in the largest producers of oilseeds crops
globally and has an important position in the agriculture economy. In India their oilseeds are groundnut, rapeseed-mustard, soybean, sunflower, safflower, sesame, Niger, castor and linseed, also accounted for an area of 23.5 million hectares with the production of 26 million tonnes. Rapeseed mustard group of crops is the major oilseed crop of India. The several annual edible oilseeds crops cultivated in India, rapeseed mustard contributed 28.6 percent in the total production of oilseeds.

Indian mustard (Brassica juncea) is predominantly cultivated in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat which contributes more than 80% area and 87% production (2001-02 to 2005-06). During the year 2006-07, more than 84 % of the total rapeseed-mustard acreage and production in the country is accounted for by these states, out of which more than 45% contributed by Rajasthan state alone. This crop takes 130-135 days but some early variety takes 110 days to mature.

There are two different ecotypes of brown sarson Lotni and Tora. The lotni is cultivated in colder regions in Kashmir and Himachal valley in Country. Yellow Sarson is mainly grown in Assam, Bihar,  Orissa, eastern Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal and the North-eastern States, The toria, on the other hand, is cultivated in limited areas of eastern Uttar Pradesh. in the North region like Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh during the month of Sept-Dec.

Taramira is also a type of mustard grown in the drier parts of northwest India basically in Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Gobhi Sarson and rai are the new emerging oilseed crops grown in limited areas. Gobhi sarson confined to Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Haryana and takes more than 155 days.

Groundnut

The major groundnut producing countries in worldwide India, China, Nigeria, Senegal, Sudan, Burma and the United States of America. If we see the production of groundnut in India seventy percent of the area and seventy-five percent of the production is mainly from four states of Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Orissa state have irrigated areas
primarily during the rabi season. The irrigated areas for groundnut in India is 6%. In these states, groundnut production mainly depends on rainfall. Groundnut is a rain-fed Kharif crop and sown from May to June, but In some areas, or where the monsoon is delayed, it is sown as late August or early September.

Soybean
Soybean is also an important place in worlds for oilseed cultivation. The crop also has a prominent place in the world as seed legume, which contributes more than 25% to global vegetable oil production. Also, soybean used as protein concentrate for livestock feeding and is a valuable ingredient in formulated feeds for poultry and fish. And more than 85% of the world's soybeans used annually into soybean meal and oil. Also, Approximately 98% of the soybean meal is crushed and further processed into animal feed with the balance used to make soy flour and proteins. soybean oil fraction and 95% is consumed as edible oil and the rest is used for industrial products such as fatty acids, soaps, and biodiesel.

The major soybean producing country in the world or nations are the United States, Brazil, and Argentina. These countries dominate global production, accounting for 80% of the world's soybean supply. 

In India soybean major growing states are Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan are major producing soybean states it contributes more than 80% to country. It is grown in the Kharif season in the month of May-July in India.

Sesame


Sesame is also used as an oilseed crop in the world. Sesame is also known as til in India. The til scientifically known as Sesamum indicum L. 

India is also one of the largest producers of sesame. Sesame is widely preferred for its qualities and the highest oil content. There mainly two distinct types white and black but some other varieties also available red to rose or brown to grey. Sesame is used for oil and seed also used for protein is 25% of their weight. Also, Sesame meal contains around 35-50% protein and used as feed for poultry and livestock.
In India sesame is grown as a Kharif crop under rainfed conditions in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Orissa, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. Also, a small amount of sesame is cultivated as a summer crop under irrigated conditions in West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.
