Wheat and Barley New varieties for Farmers

The central government is working hard to double the income of farmers by 2022. Taking another step in this direction, the Indian Agricultural Research Institute has developed 10 wheat and a new variety of barley. Its yield will not only be very good, but it will be 15 to 20 percent more in addition to being disease resistant.


In this, 9 varieties of Indian wheat and barley research institute Karnal and one variety of wheat has been developed by Chaudhary Charan Singh Agricultural University, Hisar. For this, the 59th workshop of All India Wheat and Barley Researchers was organized online at the Indian Wheat and Barley Research Institute, Karnal.

Experts from wheat and barley science from many regions of the country participated in the workshop. The meeting was organized to review the progress made during 2019 and to prepare a blueprint for research activities for 2020-21. While releasing these varieties to the farmers, the Director of National Wheat and Barley Research Center said that the yield of these varieties is very good, cultivating these varieties will revolutionize the economic condition of the farmers.

Explain that earlier barley grown in India was not used for beer in other countries, but this barley is of superior quality and will make better quality beer. This will directly benefit the farmers of southern Haryana and Rajasthan.

He informed that this time 10 varieties of wheat have been identified across the country. This includes HD 3292 for the northwestern plains, DBW 187 early BBW 303 and 1270, HD 3293 for the north eastern plains, CG 1029H for the central area, 1634 BD-W48H for the Pradeep area, I1633 late sowing. For 1149 a malt which has been identified the variety W RB 182 for farms for the northwestern plain area. It will be our endeavor that this seed reaches every farmer.

They said that only the income of farmers can be doubled in the coming time. In the workshop, the committee considered 12 proposals and unanimously approved 11 varieties of them.
