Melon is good option for farmers?

Melon is native to Iran, Anatolia and Armenia. Watermelon, muskmelon is a high source of vitamins specially for Vitamin A and Vitamin C. It contains 90 percent water and 9 percent carbohydrates. Melon grown vegetables include Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, muskmelon is a cash crop. Dry and westerly winds increase the sweetness of the fruit during ripening. Excessive humidity in the air causes the fruits to ripen late and also increases the chances of disease.

Sandy soil is best for melon

Summer is best suited for melons. It is cultivated from the beginning of January to the end of February. If the soil is sandy and the temperature is between 22 and 26 degrees, the crop yield is also good. If the westerly winds blow at this time, the fruit becomes sweeter.

Melons were cultivated in different parts of the country

Melons are cultivated in different states in different months. In South India it is planted in October, in Bihar it is planted in December and January, while in other North Indian states it is planted till February.

Which varieties are better?

Now even flat land is cultivated. Many varieties like Pusa Madhuras, Arka Rahans, Kashi Madhu, Durgapura Madhu, Punjab Sunhi, Gujarat Melon are cultivated in our country. In this, farmers are taking crops based on the quality of the land in a particular area.

Melon cultivation in thousands of acres in Haryana

Siwan tehsil in Kaithal district of Haryana has become an important center of melons nowadays. Farmers are cultivating melon in many villages of this tehsil.


Kapurthala melon in Punjab has an important place in the market

Dharam Singh, a resident of Kapurthala, has been cultivating melons for many years. The first melon in Delhi and surrounding markets has also come from Kapurthala. Dharamsinh says that we bring melons to the market in March, for which the planting work starts from December. This crop is taken 4 to 5 times. This crop is ready in 1 week to 15 days and reaches the market. Melons are grown at 150 quintals to 250 quintals per acre
