Increasing input cost worries for farmers?

farmers income

In the present times, agriculture may have become modern in place of traditional methods, but it could not be beneficial for the farmers. However, apart from giving some units of electricity free to the farmers, the government gives relief by giving subsidies on seeds and fertilizers. Despite this, rising diesel prices, increased cost of plowing through tractors and milling from threshers and increasing wages of workers are increasing the cost price of the crop.

Due to the increasing cost of cultivation, the crops are not getting the proper price. Due to this their financial condition is also not improving. As a result, even today, most of the farmers are born in debt and die in debt. On the other hand, brokers and middlemen are taking advantage of this by saying that the cost has increased and people are getting expensive food grains.

In today's time, due to modern techniques, traditional farming has almost come to an end. Earlier the fields were plowed with the help of plough. At the same time, a rolling pin was used for milling paddy. With the passage of time, there has been a big change in the methods of agricultural work. Instead of traditional farming, the trend of farmers towards modern farming has increased rapidly. This is the reason that on the lines of advanced farmers, small and medium farmers have also started cultivating through agricultural machines.

Their dependence on modern machines has also increased rapidly. Due to the increase in the prices of diesel, it is now costing the farmers to do farming through modern agricultural machines. The problems of the farmers have increased due to the rising prices of petrol and diesel in the country. This inflation is being faced in the harvesting of crops produced in the Rabi season.

The reason for the rising cost of cultivation was given by farmers to harvester operators for harvesting and milling at the rate of Rs 1,800 per acre during the Kharif crop last year. Now they are charging Rs 2,000 per acre. The cost of plowing by a tractor has also increased from Rs 650 per hour to Rs 825. Thresher to miss has increased from Rs 800 per hour to Rs 1,000. Also, the wages of male workers have increased from Rs 250 to Rs 300 per day.

Apart from this, if we talk about other wages, for example, the wages of women laborers for work related to weeding or agriculture have gone up from Rs 150 to Rs 200. Obviously, this year farming has become costlier by Rs 675 per acre as compared to the year 2020. The rising cost of farming is a matter of concern.

The increase in the cost of production of crops in agriculture will reduce the profit of the farmers, as there will be no increase in the support price. A loan waiver is not the solution to the problem, but the cost of production has to be reduced and the support price has to be increased.
