Government of India sets limits for onion wholesalers and retailers

Vantika Tech, Onion Prices India

As we are watching that since last month the onion prices rising day by day and now the prices at near Rs 80 per Kg. The increase in vegetable prices during the festival time in India

looks like that it is very common we were watching it since last year the onion prices cross the Rs 100 per Kg and the same path may be seen at this time.

In view of the last few days, the Government of India has taken a major decision to control the rising price of onion control at the festival time. Actually, the limit of storage of all the onion traders in India has been reduced and the government has decided to fix the storage limit.

Under this, the retailer will be allowed to keep only 2 tonnes of onion in stock, while on the other hand, the wholesaler will be allowed to keep 25 tonnes of stock. Such information was given by Lina Nandan Secretary of Consumer Ministry.

She says that this is the first time we have created a buffer stock of 1 lakh metric onions so that the calibrated release of that stock can take care of the rising price. On the information, it said that the central government supplied onions to various states according to their requirements and will take care even further. If we talk about till now, about 35 thousand metric ton onion has been given to Indian states to maintain price stability.

India as a nation is a major consumer of onions. In order to increase onion production in India, the government has taken proactive steps. But since the second week of September 2020, there has been a steady increase in relatively stable prices.
