The millet (Bajra) produced in Haryana will now add flavor to the biscuits of the famous companies. The state government has approached various biscuit companies and bakery producers regarding this.
The state government has purchased seven lakh 70 thousand metric tonnes of millet in the last season at the minimum support price of Rs 2150. 2400 rupees per quintal has also been incurred on its maintenance. While the market price is only 1100 to 1200 rupees per quintal. In such a situation, the state government has bought the produce of the farmers, taking a loss of about one thousand crores. In order to reduce this deficit, the state government has formulated a policy for high consumption of millet.
The Agriculture Minister said that the state government is talking to companies like Parle Biscuit producing poultry and cattle feed through their officials and work is being done to use millet in these products, so that the consumption of millet is increased. And the farmers and the state government could benefit. He said that a policy has been formulated to use millet to enhance taste in food products through food processing. Various biscuit producing companies, bakeries, sweet growers, poultry and cattle rearers are being contacted to work on the consumption of millet in these products.
Wheat and paddy production are excessive in the state. There is a need to change the traditional method of sowing more water-intensive crops like paddy. He informed that through self-help groups and government's tool Hafed, various types of biscuits and sweets will be made from Bajra and developed as a brand of Haryana. These will be sold through Hafed's sales centers.
The central government has increased the tax on palm oil, its effect is clearly seen in the form of seeing higher prices of mustard crop. Mustard support price is Rs 4650, while mustard is being sold in the market from Rs 5100 to Rs 6 thousand per quintal. This is directly benefiting the farmers.
