Locusts attacks over Many States of India

In more than half a dozen states of the country, there is a possibility of heavy damage to Kharif crops like sugarcane, cotton, moong as well as vegetables and horticultural crops due to the attack of locusts in farmers' fields. Along with Uttar Pradesh, the governments of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Chhattisgarh have become active to deal with them. Pesticide spraying is being done along with making monitoring committees.

A senior agricultural scientist from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) said that the FAO had given timely information about locusts, but due to lack of mutual coordination between the central and state governments, measures were not taken to stop locusts in time. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar had said that the central government is working to tackle the locust problem and has also been successful to a large extent. He said that new machines were being called from Britain to deal with this problem.

High alert in Haryana's Sirsa, Hisar, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, and Rewari


There is a threat of locusts in Sirsa, Hisar, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, and Rewari districts of Haryana. A large swarm of locusts has reached Jaipur in Rajasthan and now Haryana is under threat. Haryana Agriculture Minister Jayaprakash Dalal said that we have kept many districts on alert. We have also instructed all the farmers that if they see any locust party, they should inform the government so that we can kill them. They said that we have procured sufficient quantities of chemicals to kill locusts. All the district collectors have been informed about this.

Fears of locusts from Chhattisgarh from Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh


The agriculture department and farmers have been alerted in Chhattisgarh in view of grasshopper attacks on crops in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra. Lakhs of locusts are being feared. The locust party has arrived in Amravati (Maharashtra) and Mandla (Madhya Pradesh). The administration has issued an alert regarding the possible attack of the locust. Farmers are being told to save their crops from grasshopper attack and agricultural scientists are giving advice.


Locust attacks in 10 to 12 districts of Madhya Pradesh


Locusts have damaged crops in 10 to 12 districts of Madhya Pradesh state. Administration officials along with the central team are constantly spraying the affected areas. Farmers are also dealing with this danger at their level. Collectors of the respective districts are assessing the damage done to the crops so that the affected farmers can be compensated. According to the officials of the Agriculture Department, the districts have been sanctioned Rs. 50 lakh from the Disaster Relief Fund to control the locust contingent. In the Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan, the cotton and Kinnow crops have suffered heavy losses due to the attack of locusts and the locusts have also reached the residential areas of Jaipur.
