Weather forecast and crop advisory

According to the Skymet the weather forecast for 16 September 2020.  The low-pressure area has now become a deep low-pressure area, moving beyond the Bay of Bengal. This system will continue to move in the western and northwest direction

A chance of Moderate to heavy rains in many parts of the country like Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Northeast India during the next 24 hours. Moderate to heavy rains may occur over isolated places likely over Vidarbha, Marathwada, Telangana, and parts of southern coastal Andhra Pradesh.


Light rains with few heavy spells may occur over East Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Northern Interior, and Coastal Karnataka, South Konkan Goa.  Light rains are also expected in the forecast over Kerala, South-Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Rest of Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal.

Very light to light rains is may occur over isolated places over Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Southeast Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Lakshadweep.

Dry and cloudy weather may occur over the remaining parts of the country and some parts will remains clear and dry.  No significant change in temperature during the next 3-4 days. 

Agromet Advisory for farmers

Farmers are advised to monitor the paddy crop because of the weather favorable for bacterial lift blight as well as False smut. For the Management of diseases spray copper hydroxide 500 gram/acre. For false smut, farmers can use copper oxychloride or Propiconazole (tilt) for management.  Also, the weather is favorable for insect attack like brown planthopper. 


Weather condition is suitable for the sowing of sweetcorn, early peas and does seed treatment before sowing with captan 2gram/kg. Sowing of carrot can be done in a raised bed.

In vegetable brinjal, tomato, cauliflower, cabbage can be attacked by the borer. Farmers can use pheromones trape  3-4/acre.

The soybean crop is at the maturity stage rainfall is not suitable for soybean. Bajra is also at the maturity stage farmers are advised to harvest and dry for a few days. 

The dry weather is not suitable for cotton crops, especially in Northern India. Para wilt disease problems can be increased during the next few days. Farmers can manage the spraying of copper oxychloride with streptomycin. In affected crops where low damage farmers can recover the crop with the spraying of cobalt chloride to recover the plants.
