Bacterial Panicle Blight in Paddy

Bacterial panicle blight

This disease is mainly found in paddy which can reduce the yield up to 50 Percent. India and other countries of Aisa

are affected by this disease.  This article will help you to help to Identify the symptoms and favourable condition for Bacterial Panicle Blight and Management of this disease.

Symptoms of Bacterial Panicle Blight

The disease is mainly caused by Burkholderia Gulmae. The disease attack on heading seedling death or we can say that it attacks paddy crop at the time of grain filling stage when the crop is near to maturity stage. Infected plants start shows symptoms white to grey colour with a dark brown margin in grain developing stage. At the early stage of infection green colour later the grain turns into straw colour. Heavily infected panicle remains upright.

Favourable conditions for disease

The disease can be spread by different types like due to wind and water.  A Wind and night high temperature helps to spread the Panicle virus in paddy. When the grain filling stage in paddy at that time high doses of urea or nitrogen is favourable for this virus. At some places, this virus becomes active due to the low rainfall in the monsoon and dry conditions and which places also where the high rain and difference of day and night temperature is more. In some cases this virus actives in those areas where the water is not suitable or we can say that the little bit salty taste in water which is irrigated by the farmers.

Management of Panicle Blight

Farmers can control them at an early stage by using the seed treatment during the nursery and at the time of transplanting. If the seed treatment is not followed at the time of nursery or transplanting it is a little bit difficult but we can reduce the effect and damage by applying the following fungicides. It can not be controlled full when the virus spread in the entire field. You can control this by applying copper fungicides. Copper Hydroxide or copper oxychloride @ 500 gram per Acre with 200 liters of water. If you add streptomycin @ 18-20 gram per acre which is the best combination with copper fungicides and result will get in few days. It is not easily controlled by an applying of a single fungicide you have to mix them for better results. If you take streptomycin or kanamycin with copper then reduce the dose to half i.e 200 -250 gram and 18-20 gram streptomycin.

These are the only fungicides that can control this disease.
