During the marketing year 2022-23, net sugar production stood at 328.2 million tons, inclusive of 38 million tons of sugar diverted for ethanol production from sugarcane juice and B-heavy molasses.
Considering the initial stocks of approximately 56 million tons until October 1, 2023, and an estimated domestic consumption of 285 million tons for the season, ISMA forecasts a substantial closing stock (carryover) of around 91 million tons by September 30, 2024.
