The Ganga river, swelling at a rapid pace, has left farmers with no time to save their crops. Vegetables and crops like maize, mung beans, and millet have been completely wiped out in several areas.
Rising Water Levels and Widespread Damage
In areas like Mirzapur, continuous rainfall has pushed the Ganga beyond the danger mark, creating flood-like conditions. The worst-affected regions, including Mallapur and Narsinghpur, are seeing floodwaters enter homes, after having already submerged the fields.
In villages like Harisinghpur, both houses and huts are under water, displacing residents and damaging property. Farmers, in particular, are facing the brunt of the devastation, as the flood has destroyed both their crops and homes, leaving them in dire straits.
The Impact on Farmers
For farmers, the timing of this flood is particularly harsh, as their kharif crops—maize, mung, and millet—were in a critical stage of growth. With their fields submerged, many farmers are left with little to no harvest this season.
In addition to the loss of crops, the financial strain of rebuilding homes and recovering from such destruction adds to the burden on already struggling farming communities.
